5 Ways To Have Your Best Morning Routine
Do you wish you had a better morning routine?
Is your home as crazy as ours in the mornings?
Scrambling around trying to get everything done and ready for the day, making sure all of the children have had their breakfast, got all the things they need. And having to haul a teenager out of bed!
Do you find that if you are stressed and tired first thing in the morning, you tend to feel like that for the remainder of the day?
Your mood, productivity, happiness, and health can all be influenced by how you start your day. You all want to have the best day possible. If you are going to work or you are a stay at home parent.
You all have things that you need to achieve. So it is important that you give your self the best opportunity to do this.
But how can you have your best morning routine?
My morning routine used to be terrible! I used to wake up 30 minutes before I had to leave the house.
Used to rush around like a mad man. I never prepared anything, and things never went my way.
It got to a point where I needed to change my mornings. I wanted to be more organised, and I also wanted my children to be more organised. Also, I wanted them to start good habits that would allow them to have a good day as possible.
I have been doing my new morning routine for over a year now, and it has worked very well.
By doing this it has allowed me to be more organised, but most importantly it has freed up a lot more time. Time for me to do the things I couldn’t fit into my busy daily schedule.
Why Make Your Morning Routine Better?
Most of us find mornings the worst part of our day.
Struggling to get out of bed, pressing the snooze button on your alarm, feeling like you didn’t sleep at all!
Do you need to have 3 cups of coffee before you are able to commit to anything?
We are all busy and constantly tight for time.
There is always something that needs to be done. You have always got someplace to be.
If you can have a better morning, it provides you with a better chance to set yourself up for a more successful, productive, but most importantly, happier day.
Get Up Earlier
I know it is a struggle for you to function in the mornings as it is. But how can waking up earlier be any better?
By offering you a bit more time.
Have you heard of the saying “Make the most of your time”?
By waking up earlier, you allow yourself extra time to carry out your morning routine.
Whatever you need to do in the mornings, why rush?
Give yourself more time, so that you can guarantee everything will be done before you have to leave the house.
And you might have time for another cup of coffee!
Do you like to sit and watch a little bit of television before you get motivated?
You might choose to use a bit of that extra time to chill out before the craziness of the morning begins.
Do you wake up at the same time as your kids?
How about waking up before your kids?
I used to come downstairs at the same time as my kids, and it could get a little bit chaotic.
All of us rushing to get our clothes, five of us fighting over breakfast and all of us trying to get in the bathroom to brush our teeth!
But waking up and getting yourself ready before they wake, could make it easier and you may find you have a bit more patience.
Don’t start panicking about waking up hours earlier!
You can try by getting up 30 minutes earlier and then see how you get on.
I started with 30 minutes and now I get up an hour earlier than I used to, and it feels great to get on with the things I need to do before I have to go to work.
Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up
We are advised to get around 6 to 8 hours of sleep every night.
And while we are asleep our bodies still burn off energy, and use up water.
That is a long period of time for our bodies not to consume any water.
We use water to flush waste from our bodies, controlling body temperature, helping with brain function, along with a lot of other things.
Water is crucial to our body function, and if you are to make sure you have the best day possible you need your body to be working properly.
To enable our bodies to rehydrate, a glass of water as soon as we wake up is the best way to quickly hydrate.
Try to make sure it is the first thing you do when you wake up.
Do you rely on coffee in the mornings?
Coffee can cause dehydration, so make sure you rehydrate before having your morning coffee.
Put Your Alarm Away From The Bed
How many times do you snooze your alarm?
I used to do it so much that I didn’t realise that I did it.
I did it so many times that 30-45 mins passed and then I was running the risk of being late.
By putting your alarm away from your bed, it encourages you to get up out of bed and turn it off.
By committing to this you start to make your body function and wake up.

Have Clothes/Uniform Ready Night Before
How comes you can never find the right clothes when you are running late in the morning?
Rushing around to find your top that you could have sworn was in your wardrobe.
Or one of the kids can’t find their school trousers?
Preparing and laying out clothes for the next day is something my Nan used to always tell me to do when I was younger.
Did I do it? Of course not.
But I have got in the habit of doing it now, and it is so much easier.
By putting this into your morning routine, it allows you to get up and get ready before even going downstairs.
I found that by getting showered and dressed before I went downstairs made me more awake and ready for the day.
It also makes me feel a slight sense of achievement.
Kids also can prepare their school uniforms before bed, so when they get up they know exactly where it is.
Even preparing their school bags the night before stops the chaos in the morning when they can’t find their homework!
Make/Prepare Lunches Night Before
When you have more than 1 lunch to prepare it can take a bit of time, depending on what you are preparing.
A couple of sandwiches, fruit and some other snack type stuff doesn’t take too long to do.
But when you have a lot more lunches to get ready, you may choose to do most of it the night before.
Do you prepare lunches in the morning?
Have you been wanting to give your kids something different in their lunch boxes?
But just never had the time?
Why don’t you prepare them the night before?
If you want to try something different in yours/your kid’s lunch, why not cook it while your preparing dinner?
This could cut downtime in the kitchen, and also you will only have to do 1 lot of washing up!
Sandwiches, wraps and most things can be prepared the night before too. Just make them, and put them in a sealed container then into the fridge.
If you don’t like the idea of cold sandwiches or would rather make them in the morning, you can still get all of the other bits together.
It still saves you a job in the morning.
These are the changes I have made, to give myself the best morning routine possible.
I found that there were easy enough to carry out. But did take some time to get used to.
By preparing for the morning on the night before it allows you more time to do things that are important.
And to set yourself up in the right mood for the day.
It will still be possible to do some of these things in the morning, but you give yourself time to ease into your day and also be able to spend a bit of time with your children in the mornings before they go to school.
We are always complaining that we don’t have enough time, but by changing a few things in your morning routine it gives you the opportunity to create more time.
And we all can do with more time!
